Fight a Good Fight
Do not let the fear of a challenge prevent you from achieving your healthcare career goals and completing your education! A determined attitude will help you succeed and overcome many obstacles in life. Here is an inspirational story to help you get through the first few weeks of the new semester:
Nine years ago, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. At the time, it was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. But she fought hard and won her battle! Just recently my 34-year-old cousin, a young mother of two, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Two women who are very close to me have fought this terrifying disease and faced major challenges because of it.
Since breast cancer has impacted many individuals in my family, my sister has decided to take a huge stand to support breast cancer research. She is running the National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer in Jacksonville, Florida. As she trained for the marathon, it didn’t matter how cold it was or how much snow was falling, she continued to run. She took a stand to complete the marathon for all those who have had to fight hard to battle breast cancer.
While I am so proud of my sister’s accomplishment, it also brings to light my excitement to become a nurse and begin my career. My mother is also a nurse, and since her brave triumph over breast cancer, has taken the role as Breast Cancer Coordinator at the recently built breast cancer center in our hometown. Research and healthcare workers will fuel the battle with not only breast cancer, but so many other diseases that we are facing in society.
If there is ever a time when you fear that you cannot complete the difficult course loads of your chosen healthcare profession, think of these three women, who were determined to fight a challenge, and in my eyes have succeeded!
